A Drunken Dreamy J. Allen

I have been working with Josh on a number of commercial projects over the years. Josh is a location and post production sound engineer. He was also involved in the audio post production mix of the first “negative: nothing” trailer in 2012. It is only late last year that I found out that Josh is also a gifted musician, performing under the name “J. Allen”. When I went to see his show at Pianos at last year’s CMJ music event in New York, I was blown away by the personal, absorbing and dreamy quality of his songs. Since then, we were talking about making a video. It was one of those projects that was always in the back of my mind, but due to scheduling conflicts we never found the time to do it. Well, not up until last week… Read more →

“Negative: Nothing” – Japan Pre-Premiere Screening Tour 2012

In November / December 2012 my brother and I travelled once again to Japan for a few pre-premiere screenings of our documentary film “Negative: Nothing” in Osaka and Tokyo. We were fortunate to have Taiwan based Swiss journalist Martin Aldrovandi follow us during that time. He made a video report about our tour which turned out really nicely. We are quite overwhelmed by the all the positive and emotional reactions in Japan. The reactions were so good that we are now planning on another screening tour through Japan in March 2013. We can’t wait to go back. If you’re interested in attending a screening please visit the following link: Upcoming Screenings.

Interview with Japanther

I direct, shoot and edit on a weekly basis interviews with musicians for the ‘Newtown Sessions’ at Swan 7 Recording Studios in Brooklyn. The session with ‘Japanther’ is one of my favorite ones so far. I love how Matt Reilly and Ian Vanek blend art and music in playful and unexpected ways. Their immediate and raw energy is quite addictive.

Small, Beautifully Moving Parts

Small, Beautifully Moving Parts is a heartfelt, charming and well crafted road movie which just got a release here in New York City (and a couple of other cities). I had the pleasure of working for Lisa Robinson and Annie Howell’s film during post-production with designer Paul Chudy. We contributed a quirky little animation which you can see at the very end of the film. Wait for it right before the credits start… I highly recommend to see it in the theater. It’s one of those films that truly come to life on the big screen with an audience. It’s running at the Cinema Village theater at University Place and 12th Street starting Friday, May 11, 2012.

‘Negative: Nothing’ review in Cinema Today Japan

The filmmakers and brothers Jan and Stephan Knuesel speak for the first time of their new documentary film production “Negative: Nothing – Step by Step for Japan.’ […] The directors explain: “In the coming months we will continue seeing films showing the horrible images of the tragedy after the Great Earthquake and the Tsunami. Our documentary film portrays with Thomas Koehler’s walk a different side of the story and at the same time a beautiful side of Japan.”
